IV. Who is making performance cinema?

I see at present a highly balkanised configuration of actors in the society of Performance Cinema Artists. Note: I don’t see this configuration as a multipolar continuum, but more as a field or multidimensional space, where parts can wrap around others over time, or isolate themselves from all others or even morph into one another. A variety of these configurations will appear and change over time. Due to time constraints and my own bandwidth limitations, I will take two nodes of the present configuration and elaborate. One node is the academic. Another is the VJ culture, and I’ll simply brush everything else into a third group of "Everybody Else" – independent artists. Some of whom are making their work without support of academic institutions, the gallery / museum industrial complex, and / or outside the signifiers of any particular "scene" or institutional setting. I also would like to posit a fourth point, which would be that of those Performance Cinema Artists who have yet to exist and whose creative world is being developed as we speak.

Humans are humans, and diffracting each other into groups of Manichean continua and opposition is as primitive as it is unnecessary, for I believe that with this consideration of Performance Cinema, these variant cultural distinctions can now share a common space, language, and heritage, and thrive from each other’s energy, visions, and skill sets.
