NJ Series

The New Jersey Series was derived from video and came from visiting the state where I grew up, New Jersey, especially the environs near Edison and elsewhere in Northern New Jersey. The images are heavily processed and largely non-figurative. The visit stirred a lot of deep emotions and powerful memories in me, and I wanted an evocative collection of complex images that point to the abstract emotional, spiritual, and psychological states created by these memories and feelings.

The titles provide some insight into these feelings and memories, inviting the viewer into an inner landscape that is as conflicted and desperate in its powerlessness and depression, as it is thrilled and awed by the culture and industry that surrounds it.
